Japanese Ranma in Vancouver Customer's Home

Another great idea! This is a ranma, a panel that was traditionally set into the transom above sliding doors so that when the doors were closed air could still circulate. This ranma from our store is now living a spectacular second life in our customer's home as a light box atop a bookcase. Approximately 6 feet long and about 13 inches high, it features an intricate pattern of kumiko backlit with a fluorescent light fixture. A carpenter friend made the feet in the style of a tsuitate panel. We have more of these panels which we will feature in upcoming blogs. Prices range from CAD $100 (unframed panels) to $800 (with iron sword guards called tsuba set into them). Some are carved scenes, while others are geometric such as the one in the photo.
There are many creative ways to incorporate these into your home. Stay tuned!
